Mold is a very common problem in houses. And in the past few months, it has also become a familiar headache in campuses, no thanks to this year’s unusually wet summer.
Rolling Terrace Elementary School was one of those schools that was recently contaminated by mold. However, compared with other campuses, the fungus seems to have affected it much worse.
Thirty of the school’s classrooms and other areas were found with mold in September. And needless to say, the discovery of it got the parents of its estimated 900 students worried. They reported that the spores caused their kids headaches, asthma attacks, rashes and coughs.
But school officials stated that the campus is now mold-free. They said the spores were already cleared and they are closely monitoring their presence.
On Tuesday though, a PTA leader, Craig Sharman, said that new mold spots were found in the school in the last four days. Given that, he stated, reflecting all the other parents’ concern, that more should be done to completely resolve the mold problem. And so, in response to it, a meeting of the Montgomery County Council, with the affected families, was scheduled on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm.
