A mold contamination has gotten a Tennessee fire station out of action.
The fungus was particularly found in Chattanooga’s Fire Station 8 on Hickory Valley Road. And as a result of it, the 15 firefighters stationed in there were forced to relocate. For the meantime, they were transferred to Station 6 on Bonny Oaks Drive.
Several areas of the firehouse were discovered to be contaminated by the spores following the emails of the firefighters about the spores’ presence. Among them are its dayroom and downstairs portion. However, Chattanooga Fire Deputy Chief Randy Jacks said that there were no complaints of mold affecting the staff’s health yet.
The remediation of the affected station is expected to cost $25,000. That could still increase though depending on the further result of the inspection, Jacks added.
The fire house could be closed down for approximately a month for the treatment. But Jack assured that the fire department would still be able to respond in a timely manner as usual. He stated that they got the area covered.
