According to Greenville County Schools’ spokesperson Oby Lyles, mold was specifically discovered in two areas in the campus – the old gym and the main one.
Lyles said that the mold in the old gym was caused by a leaking roof. And as a result the lockers, offices and a storage room in it were contaminated. Meanwhile, in the main gym, an HVAC problem was determined as the cause of the mold presence.
In addition to the mold treatment, two office furniture pieces in the old gym required replacements. Because of that and possibly other replacements, the total cost mold caused the school is yet undetermined.

“Mold has been found in two areas of Mauldin High, and while it caused some damage, air samples from both areas are clear, said Oby Lyles, a spokesman for Greenville County Schools.
A roof leak in the old gym area of the school resulted in mold in PE locker rooms, offices and a storage room, Lyles said. The areas have been cleaned, and uniforms have been sterilized according to protocols, he said.”
