Roaches are pestering the residents of Markley Residence Hall in the University of Michigan. A report has it that there were already about 24 cockroach complaints filed in the said student housing.
The cause of the chaos was determined to be the demolition of Arbor Heights located beside Markley. According to Peter Logan, the University Housing spokesperson, the cockroaches from the demolished site enter the housing via open windows and doors and loose thresholds.
Two cockroach sightings said to have happened in the food preparation facilities of the hall. And so, the university’s pest management staff implemented a food-safe treatment in the housing’s main kitchen and also in the former Hideaway restaurant. Roach baits were also placed in the living quarters and areas determined in the complaints.
Besides that, the University Pest Management Services and the Plant Operations also sealed the manholes serving as entryways of the pests. Moreover, Logan said that they will continue to monitor the area every two weeks.
