The Oklahoma tornado caused the state 24 deaths. Also it left 237 people injured and about 13,000 homes destroyed. When a wound is contaminated by the mold, the infection could cause a serious illness. And as determined, there is a 50 percent chance that it would lead to death.
During the Joplin tornado in 2011, it was said that there were 13 serious cases of necrotizing cutaneous mucormycosis recorded. Five of the patients did not survive it.
