A woman’s hair is her crowning, so says the saying. However, tennis coach Donna Brumfield had to cut hers unwillingly. And it was all because of the pesky bed bugs.
Briumfield had been growing her dreadlocks for 12 years already. A stay in Palatine Holiday Inn Express in October 2012 though left her with no choice but to chop it off in fear that bed bugs had gotten into her locks.
On the second day of her stay in the said hotel, Brumfield stated that a manager said her room had to be inspected as the crawlies were found in the room next to hers. The inspection detected the pest in her headboard and she was transferred.
However, by then, she already got bed bug bites on her hands, arms, shoulders and neck. The physician also suspected that the critters have crawled up to her hair, hence, she was forced to cut it. And for the trauma of losing her hair and being anxious every time she travels that the incident caused her, she took a legal action and asked for $50,000 compensation.
