Mold has become a major troublemaker to Newburgh Police Department.
Caused by water leakage, it had been bringing in several problems in the department’s building. It had been contaminating the police’s uniforms, holsters, helmets and vests. It had also been covering their various equipments. And generally, that led to inconveniences for both officers and civilian employees, not to mention additional expenses for Newburgh Police.
It was around six months ago when the fungus started showing up in the building. And particularly, it settled on the men’s locker room, which was also dubbed as the department’s “flood zone.”
To help officers deal with the mold problem, the office provides replacements to the mold-contaminated uniform shirts. However, when it comes to the equipments, they have to kill mold and clear it off them on their own.
Because of all those problems the fungus has been bringing in, repairs were being planned for the building. In fact, a bond money was already approved for it, with the leaks in the men’s locker room among those problems that were specifically to get fixed.

“The City of Newburgh is preparing to solicit bids for roughly $100,000 in repairs at the police department building where officers confront a mold problem that’s been damaging equipment and uniforms in the men’s locker room.
Photos shared by Teamsters Local 445, the union representing Newburgh officers, shows fungus covering holsters, uniform shirts and bulletproof vests among other items.”
