Over the weekend, Lake County was blanketed with almost six inches of rain. As a result, water rose and swamped the area.
Given that moisture prompts mold growth and flood provides so much of it, mold problems are a common occurrence after flooding. Because of that, the county is anticipating the rise of mold infestation cases in the following days.

Warning the residents about it, Nancy Niehus, environmental health director of the Health District, advised proper cleaning and moisture removal when the water recedes. As she said, to do so would make homes much healthier especially to those with asthma and other respiratory problems.
There are several ways of controlling moisture and mold growth at homes, county health officials stated. They enumerated a number of it such as keeping the home well-ventilated and routinely checking potential mold spots like basement and bathroom.

Besides the cautions about mold, the county also submitted a Declaration of Emergency to the Ohio Emergency Management Agency to help the residents. The declaration could have Lake County receive state assistance for the flood victims.
