Chicken vindaloo makes a great meal. But a cockroach in a bowl of it surely doesn’t make it appealing. Rather, it makes it appalling. And appalled indeed was a customer in Norfolk when he found a roach on his takeaway order of the dish.
The incident happened in July of last year. Dalia Spice, located in Cromer, was the restaurant where the curry was ordered.
Relayed the customer, he and others first thought that the insect was a cardamom seed from the rice. But when they confirmed it was a cockroach, they all stopped eating and immediately complained to the restaurant. The owner then promptly came, inspected the pest and refunded the customer.
The discovery of the roach in the takeout food particularly prompted an inspection in the restaurant. And as the North Norfolk District Council found out, there was a huge infestation of the pest in the place. It was even said that roaches in full life cycle were seen in it – from larvae to adults.
Following the inspection, the restaurant, admitting eight other food sanitary offenses, then voluntarily closed down.
