Bed bugs could be eliminated in a number of ways. Freezing the items affected is one of those methods highly recommended to their victims. However, low temperature is less fatal to those pesky bugs than it was thought to be.
A study has discovered that like an Asian specie of cockroach, bed bugs could actually tolerate low temperature for quite some time. Details about them being cold survivors were given in the “Journal of Economic Entomology.”

Particularly, the new study about the vampire-like critters found out that they could lower their bodies’ freezing point as a defense against cold. Because of that, if frozen for just a short period of time, they and their eggs could still survive.

According to the researchers from the Entomological Society of America, to effectively eliminate them using low temperature, they must be exposed to a minimum of 80 hours at minus 16 Celsius (3.2 degrees F). But at minus 20 C (minus 4 F), they could be killed in 48 hours.

“In a separate study also published in the Journal of Economic Entomology, researchers detail how bed bugs defend against freezing temperatures by lowering the freezing point of their body fluids. Placing a bed bug-contaminated item in the freezer is a common home remedy to kill the pests, but the new study indicates that in order to sufficiently kill the critters, they’ll need to be frozen for quite some time.
Researchers from the Entomological Society of America found that in order to achieve 100 percent mortality, a minimum exposure of 80 hours at minus 16 Celsius (3.2 degrees F) is needed. At temperatures of minus 20 C (minus 4 F), 100 percent mortality can be achieved in 48 hours.”

The reason why freezing is a highly recommended method to kill bed bugs is because it involves no chemicals. However, just like the new study said, it takes time for it to work. Apart from that, you couldn’t possibly use it as a remedy to eliminate those crawlies in big items as a couch and a bed.

Given that, you must have another alternative. And the best out there is eliminating the pests with a bed bug spray. Nonetheless, you must see to it the product is organic-based to ensure that it won’t endanger your health and that of your family.

Considering that Bed Bug Bully is exactly that – organic-based – it makes a great choice for the process. But it isn’t just any organic-based bed bug spray. It is one that is recognized by EPA and is on its FIFRA 25(b) list.
When it comes to effectiveness, you also don’t have to worry. Hotels, hospitals and pest-control companies have proven that it is efficient. If you want, you could even prove its benefits yourself as there are samples of it that you could test.
