Mold could grow on almost any surface or item. But do you know that your washing machine could also be hiding its presence?
According to a recent post from today.com, several consumers already come out complaining about mold infestations in their front-loading washing machines. And those aren’t just any washing machines. They were made by the top appliance brands as Whirlpool, Kenmore, Bosch and LG.
Because of the mold, instead of cleaning the clothes, the said machines made the clothing to reek and caused bacteria to grow. And that’s not all. It was said that one of those mentioned companies also knew about the problem for years, yet, did not stop the selling of the appliance with the defect. Rather, it developed and sold a new product to fix it.
In the news post, Whirlpool was that company identified to have known the mold problem. Particularly, its washing machine Duet units sold from 2001 to 2008 that were determined to be molding. And for all the problems it brought in, the consumers are suing.
Labeling the selling of those washing machines with the mold problem as fraud, the consumers’ lawsuit also included other models from Sears/Kenmore, LG and Bosch. In their defense though, the companies stated that the users are the ones causing the mold presence by misusing or not maintaining the appliance.

Moisture triggers mold growth. And as front-loading washing machines are enclosed and sealed, water couldn’t completely get out of them, hence, the mold presence, as the post explained.
Because of that, top-loading washing machines are, therefore, the better choice. But is that enough to keep your clothes and your home, in general, free from spores? Absolutely not.
