Guilmette School in Lawrence, Massachusetts was once infested by mold. Its clean-up cost the school about $3.5 million. Now, after two years, it is feared that the campus was re-captured by the spores. And so, it was scheduled for a mold re-inspection on May 21.

According to a report, teachers of the school expressed concerns about having trouble breathing in their classrooms. In a letter sent to the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration by a Guilmette employee, it was said that staff also suffers from other health problems as “chronic, recurring symptoms such as coughing, bronchitis, sinus infections, asthma symptoms, swollen glands and unexplained tiredness and burning under the eyelids.”

The issue about the mold re-infestation surfaced when a hired hygienist found high level of mold spores in one first-grade classroom. School Superintendent Jeff Riley said that a letter was sent to parents about it on Friday. But though the hygienist cleared that it was likely because of a science project and a case not connected with the initial mold infestation, Frank McLaughlin, teachers union president, still expressed his concern about it.

“State health inspectors will return to the Guilmette School next week after teachers expressed fears that the mold infestation uncovered two years ago survived a $3.5 million cleanup, the president of the teachers union said yesterday.
“There are teachers who said they do have concerns, that they have trouble breathing in their classrooms,” union president Frank McLaughlin said after he and about 40 of Guilmette’s teachers and staff met with school Superintendent Jeff Riley to discuss the issue. “They say they crack their windows every day.”

Mold risks health. And it’s easy to understand the fear surrounding the possible mold re-infestation in Guilmette School.
For that reason, when eliminating mold, you have to make sure that you completely get rid of the spores. Else, they will grow back and bring you the same problems all over again.
But apart from the possibility of spores’ re-growth, there are other circumstances that could cause another mold infestation in the same place. Take, for example, rain or flooding. Even if you completely kill mold in its first infestation, the water the rain or flooding brings will trigger another start of an infestation.
Another example is a leak in your basement. If it is undetected for days, it could damp your basement and turn it into a moldy space. In fact, even just the condensation in your window could already prompt mold growth. And with the big amount of money that a mold treatment might require, you couldn’t just let that happen. But what do you have to do to prevent another infestation?
Here are the steps that you must take:
- Regularly implement a DIY mold inspection. This will help you discover mold infestation early. And with that, you could launch an early mold treatment. Particularly, check the areas often exposed to moisture like your bathroom, windowsills and under your sinks.

- Repair leaks and roof gutters. As said, they are sources of moisture and could therefore, start a mold infestation.

- Act quick. Whenever spills occur, dry it as soon as possible. If damp surfaces are not dried within 24-48 hours, mold could grow.

- Keep bathroom and kitchen dry. You could use a fan or you could open your window or door to dry the area. That would also keep in the air flowing which helps in keeping a low indoor humidity.

If in case mold still grows despite your preventive measure, then just make sure that as soon as you detect the infestation, you would implement a mold remediation. Mold spreads fast so early treatment will prevent the infestation from getting out of control. Also, instead of your old mold removal spray, use Molderizer. It changes mold’s DNA make-up unlike other products. With that, it prevents the spores’ regrowth.

In addition, Molderizer is organic-based. Because it contains no harmful chemical ingredients, it would make your mold removal safe.
That’s not all. Molderizer also works in just seconds. With it, you could get rid of black mold without needing to scrub for hours.
